 Ormskirk Parish 1825  Contained the following villages:

BICKERSTAFFE,

BURSCOUGH,

BURSCOUGH BRIDGE, a hamlet of Ormskirk.

LATHOM, 3 miles NE of Ormskirk. 

NEWBURGH, a village in the township of Lathom.

SCARISBRICK BRIDGE, (over the Leeds & Liverpool canal).

SCARISBRICK.

SKELMERSDALE, a chapelry of Ormskirk.

STANLEY GATE, a hamlet in the township of Bickerstaffe.

WESTHEAD, a hamlet in the township of Lathom.

INNS & TAVERNS IN THE PARISH OF ORMSKIRK, 1825.

Black Horse, Richd Martland.

Bridge, Thomas Roberts.

Bull and Dog, Cooper Tyrer.

Chapel House, John Leyland.

Eagle and Child, James Hooton.

Fox and Goose, Betty Ashcroft (Skelm).

Gate, William Holt.

Goldon Lion, Robert Leyland.

Houghton Castle, W. Hargreaves.

May Pole, Robert Halsall.

Plough, William Allert.

Red Lion, Thomas Fletcher.

Red Lion, William Swarbrick.

Ring of Bells, Richard Ackers.

Royal Oak, Timothy Manchester (and wheelwright).

Running Horses, S. Horrock.

Some Inns have kept the same name e.g: Plough, Ring of Bells, Red Lion. Therefore we can easily recognise them and know which village in the parish they were situated in. I have added Skelm to the Fox and Goose as this was a very old pub in Skelmersdale located at Stormy Corner but if you know the names of the Inns in Newburgh please let me know.

From the records there were 4 Inns/Taverns in Newburgh in 1825.
